Here are a few inspiring stories of young Black entrepreneurs who started businesses while still in elementary or middle school:
Zandra Cunningham, started making lip balm at age 9. She turned that hobby into Zandra Beauty, a skin care line now sold in stores across the U.S.
Moziah Bridges launched Mo’s Bows, a bowtie business, at just 9 years old. He later appeared on Shark Tank and even made custom ties for the NBA draft!
Mikaila Ulmer used her grandma’s lemonade recipe to start Me & the Bees Lemonade—and now it’s sold in major grocery stores nationwide. She started at age 4!
These kids didn’t wait until they were grown up to get started. They took something they loved and turned it into something powerful. Whether they want to be the next tech genius, fashion designer, baker, or scientist—entrepreneurship is a fun way to start dreaming big now.
Kid-Friendly Business Ideas: Your kids don’t have to wait either! Here are some fun, creative businesses that they could start with your help:
Slime Shop – Mix and sell slime with fun colors and scents
Bracelet Business – Make and sell beaded jewelry or friendship bands
Lawn Care or Rake Crew – Team up to help neighbors with outdoor chores
Pet Sitting or Dog Walking – Help pet owners in your neighborhood
Lemonade or Snack Stand – Classic, but always a hit!
Tutoring Club – If you’re good at math or reading, help younger kids
YouTube or TikTok Channel – Teach crafts, gaming tips, or science fun (just remember: adult supervision is a must!)
